What Tim Burton heard from Pierce Brosnan cost him the role of "Batman"

Play Batman:

Pierce Brosnan was supposed to play Batman, but he lost out on the part after making a joke to the movie's director, Tim Burton.

 Ppposite Effect:

The Irish actor recalled a joke he made during the cape crusader audition on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in an effort to land the part. The joke, however, had the opposite effect.

Jimmy Fallon was informed by actor Pierce Brosnan, "I remember saying something foolish to Tim Burton." I remarked, "You know, I don't see why any man would expose his underwear in public."

1992's Batman Returns:

The 69-year-old believes that the remark hurt his chances of landing the role of the Caped Crusader. But there you go, he added, "the best man got the job." Michael Keaton ultimately took up the role of the Gotham vigilante. In 1992's Batman Returns, Keaton played the same character once more.

Pierce Brosnan received the role of James Bond instead of the Bat vigilante, which he played four more times over the course of seven years.
