tale of the audio leak
On October 11, Interior Minister Rana Sanauallah announced that the criminals behind the audio leaks had been found. He also indicated that telephone tapping, rather than bugging, was the method used to collect the sound bits. The prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, and a top official are said to be on the first tape. The conversation centred on Maryam Nawaz, vice president of the PML-N, requesting her uncle to import an Indian power plant for her son-in-law.

"Play" the US cypher.

Two more audio files were posted online on September 25. The resignations of PTI members were the subject of one of them, while Miftah Ismail, a former finance minister, was the subject of the other. On September 28, the first PTI-related recording was released, in which the PTI leader is heard purportedly telling his then-principal secretary Azam Khan that they must "play" the US cypher.

PTI audio leak surfaced (NSC) authorized

On September 30, a second PTI audio leak surfaced that purportedly exposed Khan's conspiracy theory. In it, the then-prime minister Khan, the former minister Asad Umar, and the then-principal secretary Azam are said to have been overheard discussing how to utilise the US cypher to PTI's benefit. The National Security Council (NSC) authorized the creation of a high-level committee to look into the situation as a result of the consecutive disclosures. Sanauallah would serve as its chairman.
