Oscar Winning Actors:
In a video broadcast on Wednesday in solidarity of Iranian demonstrators, Oscar-winning actors Marion Cotillard and Juliette Binoche, as well as other French film and music celebrities, were seen cutting off a few locks of hair.
"For freedom," Binoche exclaimed as she brandished a large quantity of her own hair in front of the camera after cutting it off with a pair of scissors.
Hair For Freedom:
The hashtagged "HairForFreedom" video is released as anti-government rallies envelop Iran. They were brought on by the death of Mahsa Amini, 22, who had been detained for allegedly breaking the strict dress code of the Islamic Republic.
At the protests, a few Iranian protesters cut off hair in front of others, and the act caught viral.
Images of women in other countries shaving their heads in support of Iranian women have gone viral, including those of the Swedish politician Abir Al-Sahlani in Strasbourg on Tuesday, Lebanon's and Syria's women, and Turkish singer Melek Mosso last week on stage. Hairpieces are being gathered by a museum in Rome for the Iranian Embassy.
