Haitian singer Mikaben passes away while performing in Paris

Haitian artist Mikaben passed away on stage at a concert on Saturday night from what is believed to be a heart attack, shocking the audience who had just witnessed him collapse while exiting the stage.

Performer Real Name:

The performer, whose real name is Michael Benjamin, was a guest of the Haitian group Carimi when he took the stage at the 20,000-seat Accor Arena in eastern Paris.

The venue posted on Twitter that he "died after having a seizure on stage and despite the efforts of medical responders."

Social media videos of him performing show him turning abruptly and moving backwards toward the stage.

When he passes out in front of a crowd, the music is halted, and the ambulance is called.

Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry posted on Twitter, "I'm stunned by the tragic death of the young and highly brilliant artist Michael Benjamin 'Mikaben'."

In an interview with the Miami Herald newspaper, musician Wyclef Jean, who was born in Haiti and is a member of the hip-hop group The Fugees, referred to him as "one of the most influential and motivating young artists of our generation."

Son of renowned musician Lionel Benjamin, Mikaben was well-known in the local music scene as a singer, lyricist, and producer. He was born in 1981 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
