The iconic half-giant Hagrid from the Harry Potter movies, played by the outsized Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane, passed away on Friday at the age of 72.

King Charles:

Journalist Richard Eden responded to his passing by saying, "When King Charles finds out about Robbie Coltrane's passing, he will be heartbroken. In the BBC production of his children's tale, The Old Man Of Lochnagar, the Scottish actor lent his voice. It was narrated by Charles."

Many followers were anticipating an official declaration from the King over the actor's passing.

Coltrane's more than four-decade acting career included parts in the James Bond movies "GoldenEye" and "The World Is Not Enough" as well as the lead character of criminal psychologist Dr. Edward "Fitz" Fitzgerald in the British TV series "Cracker" from the 1990s.

Anthony Robert McMillan, who was born in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, on March 30, 1950, changed his name professionally in honour of the legendary jazz musician John Coltrane.

He played a number of television parts, including recurring roles in "The Comic Strip Presents..." anthology series. He was a talented comic actor and a star of Britain's alternative comedy boom in the 1980s. He gained more notoriety in 1987 when he co-starred with Emma Thompson in John Byrne's miniseries "Tutti Frutti," in which he played the tragic lead singer Big Jazza McGlone of the fictitious Scots rock and roll band The Majestics.
